Nancy Gayle Jay Moore, age 83, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, April 10, 2026.

Nancy was born in Bluefield, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Dillon Comstock Jay ll and Virginia Gayle Brown. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Allen Moore and her brother, Dillon Comstock Jay lll.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Nancy served in the United States Navy. She later became a registered nurse. In her later years, she ran a bed and breakfast on Reelfoot Lake.

Nancy loved tennis and played into her 70s. She was also an avid birdwatcher. She visited many places in order to grow her life list of birds.

Mrs. Moore is survived by her three daughters, Denise Moore, Maryville, TN, Karen Heffner (Jerry), Knoxville, TN, Christina Swift (Brian), Maryville, TN and her son, Scott Moore (Rachel), Winston-Salem, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Kyle Moore, Abigail Moore, Kataizah Johnson, Nathaniel Hayes, Thomas Moore, and Tanner Primm. She also had one great grandchild, Milo Moore. She is also survived by her longtime companion, David Fiehtner.

Her funeral will be held at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier on June 11 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
