Johnny Billy
Wilburn
December 27, 1942 – April 14, 2026
Reverend Johnny Billy Wilburn, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2026. Born on December 27, 1942, at the family home, he was the son of James Ernest Wilburn and Lillie Stinnett Wilburn. Johnny was preceded in death by his beautiful and loving wife, Wanda Wilburn; his parents Ernest and Lillie; and his siblings, Buck, Fred, Mary, Margaret, Candy, and Henrietta. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: Johnny Billy Wilburn, Jr., Mamie Evans, and Logan Wilburn (Donna). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Katie Campbell (Dustin), Alana Stanifer (Tyler), Kylie Coffey (Shayne), Emma Mente (Paul), and foster granddaughter Moon. His love continues through his great-grandchildren: JJ and Justin Campbell, Ensley and Everson Stanifer, and Graylen Coffey. Johnny worked hard and loved even harder. He faithfully provided for his family, working long hours in a food distribution warehouse, while also answering a higher calling. He served as a pastor for many years, and before that as an evangelist, even sharing the Gospel through his own radio broadcast ministry. If you ever heard one of his sermons, you likely remember his closing words: “Look up, for your redemption draweth nigh.” He didn’t just preach the Word—he lived it. If Johnny knew you, he prayed for you. His life was a testimony of faith, joy, and devotion to God. Johnny also loved to sing, often sharing songs like “Why Me Lord” and “One Day at a Time.” He had a playful spirit, making up silly songs and bringing laughter wherever he went. He never missed a chance to call his loved ones early in the morning to sing “Happy Birthday,” a tradition his family will always treasure. He found joy in the simple and meaningful moments—watching television and talking about the Lord with his beloved wife Wanda, fishing with his son John, working and “piddling” with his son Logan, and sharing a McRib with his “daddy’s girl,” Mamie. Time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant everything to him. They were his pride and joy, and he thanked God for them daily, always lifting them up in prayer. Johnny had a way of leaving people with a smile. Whether it was his sweet grin or his familiar sayings like, “Don’t take any wooden nickels” and “Have fun, but don’t get into any trouble,” he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Johnny is now at home with his Heavenly Father and reunited with his beloved wife, Wanda. He knew this world was not his home, and he lived his life with eternity in view. There will be no public funeral or burial services. The family will hold a private memorial dinner in honor of their beloved father and grandfather on May 9, 2026.
“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” — Luke 21:28
