Howard Edward Hines passed away peacefully while doing what he loved, sitting on his front porch on October 22nd, 2023. He was an active member of Oak View Baptist Church where he would sing and play his guitar for the congregation. He was a Vietnam War vet and proudly served his country as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was awarded three medals: Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, The Air Medal, and The Bronze Star, among other high accolades.
Howard is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Jackie Hines; his two sons, Eddie and David Hines; grandson Byron May; and parents Arminda and Harold "Red" Hines. He is survived by his daughter Kathy Hines; grandchildren Kasie Cox, Olivia "Teenie" Cox, Marcus May and wife Tammy, and Alex Zetzsche; great-grandchildren Jake, Amanda, and Dexter Saffell; brothers-in-law Hugh "Mack" Large and John Worth; special friends Don and Linda Hafley; as well as many other beloved cousins and close family friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 6pm-7:30pm at Oak View Baptist Church with service to follow. Graveside service will be on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11am at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Oakview Baptist Church, 2704 Ellejoy Rd, Walland, TN 37886, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
