William "Bill" Marcus

William L. Marcus, 73, Louisville, TN, transitioned to heaven Tuesday, July 18. Native of Swain County, NC, he graduated from Swain High in 1969 and then completed his degree at Piedmont Aviation, Winston-Salem, NC in 1970. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War Period and did a tour in Germany with a specialty in aircraft hydraulic maintenance of helicopters and aircraft used in Vietnam.  Following a career in aviation, he retired from Standard Aero where he worked as Chief Inspector. He was a dedicated and valued employee and was recognized by the Governor in 2014 as Tennessee Aviation Technician of the Year.  Bill was a member of the St. Mark’s Global Methodist Church and was known as the church breakfast sausage gravy cook. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved trading and haggling, a loyal and caring brother, and a proud, doting uncle.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Mabel Marcus, and brother Gary Marcus. Surviving are sisters Jean (Earl) Thomas and Karen Marcus; brother Kermit (Linda) Marcus, Jr.; nieces Jennifer (Chris) Sloop and Carrie (Justin) Hall; nephews Marc (Shannon) Thomas, Justin (Megan) Marcus, and Kelly (Emily) Marcus; and 11 great-nieces and -nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 12 at 1:00 PM at St Mark’s Global Methodist Church, Louisville, TN, Rev. Rowland Buck officiating.  Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
