Steven Robert Trout

March 2, 1956 — September 18, 2025

Maryville, TN

Steven (Steve) Robert Trout passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean; father, William (Bill); and stepmother, Clara. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa; brother, James (Jim); and half-siblings Dave Lieben, Bruce (Lynn) Trout, Laura (Michael) Humann and Beth Hudspeth.

Steve was born March 2, 1956, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan with his mother and brother. He and Jim spent many happy weekends with their half-siblings at their father's home. In 1982, after losing a job due to the recession in Detroit, at the age of 26, Steve moved to East Tennessee where he spent the rest of his life. He worked for Knox County as a computer programmer for 18 years where he and another coworker were in charge of developing the current 911 emergency system for all of Knox County. He finished his career working with similar companies.

Steve met his wife, Lisa, in 1991, and found they shared many common interests. They enjoyed many activities together. These included enjoying nature, often walking their dog at the Bicentennial Greenbelt Park in Blount County. They traveled throughout multiple states and parts of Canada, attending musical festivals and concerts, visiting historic sites, and camping. They loved walking on beaches and collecting seashells. But most of all, they enjoyed each other's companionship.

Steve's greatest passion was reading. He had many interests, but the greatest was the enjoyment of the works of Robert E. Howard and his many contemporaries. He loved exchanging ideas with fellow scholars who were also members of REHUPA (Robert E. Howard United Press Association). He loved attending pulp cons and conventions where he could catch up with like-minded friends.

A celebration of Steve's life will be scheduled at a later date. Steve left many fond memories for those that truly knew him. In lieu of flowers, his family kindly asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in his honor via the link provided below.
