Rema "Sue" Deakin

Sue Deakin, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at home with her family. Sue was born in McMinn County, TN but moved to Maryville at a very young age.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sterling Clay (S.C) Dodson and Minnie (Melton) Dodson; special cousin, Barbara Grace Melton; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by her husband, Buck Deakin; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and RL Dowdy; special life-long friends, Mack & Faye Brown.

Sue was a graduate of Maryville High School, Class of 1957 where she met the love of her life, Buck. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on July 3rd.

She was a Customer Service Representative with Prudential Insurance Company for 38 years.

After her retirement, she volunteered at Blount Memorial Hospital as part of the Hospital Auxiliary. She spent 20 years and donated 10,000 hours of service.

She and Buck have been active members of Broadway Baptist Church for over 64 years where she taught Sunday school and served on numerous committees. She loved to share her passion of cooking and was known countywide as a wonderful cook. Her famous pecan pies brought as much as $300 at church fundraisers.

The family will receive friends at Broadway Baptist Church on Sunday, August 6th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm followed by a celebration of life at 5:00 pm. A private burial will be held at a later date.
