Lillie Mae Guge

Mrs. Lillie Mae Farr Guge, age 94, passed away quietly at MorningView Village Senior Living center in Maryville, TN on November 19, 2024, leaving this world to spend eternity in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on July 30, 1930, in Robbinsville, NC, she was married to the late Agee Guge for 65 years. They lived initially in Rhymer’s Ferry, NC, then Calderwood, TN, and then retired to a home they built together on a rolling hills farm outside of Maryville. Lillie Mae was a homemaker and excellent cook, regularly hosting feasts for family and friends, including some who realized for the first time how much they loved fried chicken! She taught adult Sunday School for more than 40 years, first at Bethel Baptist Church in Tapoco, NC, and later at Calderwood Baptist Church and then Centenary Baptist Church in Maryville. She served for a time as President of the PTA at Lanier High School. She cherished vacations and holidays with family, including visits to China, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, England and Scotland, in addition to all 50 U.S. states, Mexico and Canada.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Wylie and Ida Lovin Phillips, who raised Lillie Mae following her father’s death at an early age; parents, William Farr and Winona Phillips Farr Roland, and stepfather William (Bill) Roland; sister Jean Mecimore; brother Curtis Farr and his wife Lorene; brother Verlie Farr and his wife Nell; two infant twin brothers; grandson, Tyler Guge; nephews Stanley Farr, Harold Farr, Lester Williams, and Charles Williams; niece Rebecca Burleson; half-brother Eddie Roland; and half-sisters Wilma Roland and Jewel Hughes. She is survived by daughter, Sharon Guge Boone and husband Roe; son, Brett Guge and wife Gail; son, Rodney Guge, Lillie Mae’s primary caregiver; grandson, Stuart Boone and wife Lee Anne; granddaughter, Ashley Guge and husband Jesse Rhoads; great grandchildren Lilly, Harrison, Reese, Peyton and Aubrey Boone, and Evie, Willa and Iris Rhoads; half-sisters Grace Buchanan, Louise Buchanan, Alma Kinsland and June Ward; sister-in-law Brenda Farr, and several nieces and nephews.

Receiving of friends will be May 24, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Lone Oak Baptist Church, 3699 Tapoco Rd (US 129), Robbinsville, NC 28711; followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Celebration of Life service, the Reverend Rick Conley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Lillie Mae Guge’s memory to Lone Oak Baptist Church youth activities.
