Joyce Clower Irvine, of Maryville, TN, passed away on July 13, 2022. Joyce was born on June 28, 1952 in Atlanta, GA. She attended Forest Park High School (Forest Park, Georgia), Clayton Junior College (Morrow, Georgia), Georgia State University (BA, MS), and Woodrow Wilson College of Law JD. Joyce worked as a Legal Assistant in two large Atlanta law firms, before becoming a legal Manager and Corporate Assistant Secretary for BellSouth Corporation before retiring in 2007 to move to Cumberland County, Tennessee. In Crossville, she worked for the Tennessee Department of Labor in the Unemployment and Workforce Development office, until a second retirement in 2014 and another move to Blount County, Tennessee, where she resided until her death.
Joyce was a brilliant student of both Political Science and Criminal Justice, always graduating with honors. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Managing Editor of the Criminal Justice Review (Georgia State University), and she was a member of the Georgia Bar. She was a strong woman, with definite goals and the determination to meet them, but she was also kind, caring, compassionate, and above all a wonderful friend. She was an animal lover her entire life, and she was a loving spouse and helpmate to her husband Dave for 46 wonderful years of marriage. She will be missed greatly!
She is preceded in death by her parents Edward L. Clower and Hazel M. Harold (both TN natives). Joyce leaves behind her husband John David (Dave) Irvine, Step-daughter Stacy Irvine Hooper(Glen), sister ArleneWalker(Garland), nieces Kristi Higginbotham(Alan), and Jennifer Upchurch (Jason).
There will be a private scattering service in which Joyce's ashes will be distributed, and a memorial nameplate placed, in the Nature Garden at Grandview Cemetery, 2304 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to Best Friends Animal Society
