James Lee Lawson

July 22, 1954 — September 2, 2025

Maryville, TN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Lawson. Jim passed away on September 2, 2025, peacefully at home after a long-fought battle with kidney disease.

Jim was a kind and gentle man with countless talents and hobbies. As a young man, Jim was very active with the Boy Scouts of America where he achieved his goal to be an Eagle Scout and achieved every merit badge that existed, except for two. Jim served his community as a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol for nearly three decades. He served in roles ranging from search and rescue pilot to squadron commander, TN wing staff, and Southeast Region staff member reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel. He completed multiple graduate degrees, to include his PhD in computer science that made him invaluable in his almost 40-year career at Arconic (formerly Alcoa).

Jim is preceded in death by his mother Vivian, father Jim, and wife Tina. He is survived by his son Jim, his daughter-in-law Heather, and his numerous grandchildren that he was always incredibly proud of. His family always loved and relied on him for his loving nature and endless wisdom. No matter the storms the family ever faced in life, Jim was always a calm harbor for the family to turn to. He is truly irreplaceable and will forever be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Jim to the National Kidney Foundation via the link provided below.
