Florence May Prutzman Jorgensen, 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Fairpark Health and Rehabilitation in Maryville, Tennessee.
Florence was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on November 13, 1927. She went to nurses’ training in Orlando, Florida and graduated from the Florida Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing in August 1949. She married Roy Alfred Jorgensen, Jr. on September 5, 1949 in Orlando, Florida. They moved a lot in the early years as Roy finished his degree and started teaching. Florence worked as a night nurse wherever they lived during that time. Through the years, they were blessed with three sons, Gilbert, Robert (Bob), and William (Will).
In 1971, they moved to North Carolina. Eventually they built a new home on their mountain property in Madison County. Florence dedicated herself to helping with her husband’s health needs. After he died in 1990, she lived alone, although she often traveled with her son, Bob.
Florence was always active in her local Seventh-day Adventist church. She loved helping with the age 0-4 children’s church groups. She also played the piano and the organ for church. She loved being outside growing things in her garden, doing her own yard work, and walking. She enjoyed working on the family genealogy, reading history, and spending time studying the Bible.
Due to declining heath, Florence relocated to Maryville, Tennessee, to live with her son Will, in 2018. During these years, she loved watching the birds, going for daily walks around the neighborhood, reading her beloved Bible and spiritual books, and puttering in the kitchen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darius Edward and Carry May Gearhart Prutzman; her beloved husband of 40 years, Roy Jorgensen, Jr; and her son, Robert Jorgensen.
She is survived by her sons, Gilbert and William (Will) Jorgensen, daughters-in-law Kathy and Gail, grandchildren Brent (Johana), Lance (Manuela), Kristie, Karen, and Peter (Mallory) Jorgensen, and two great-grandchildren, Ozzie Glaser and Leonardo Jorgensen.
In honor of her request, no services are being held.
