Downey Ray Dockery

Downey Ray Dockery, 80, of Townsend, TN, went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family, who will miss him dearly. Downey is preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Mary Alice Dockery; brothers, James Dockery and Lynnie Dockery; and sisters, Betty Webb (Arthur) and LaVern Davis (Harry).   He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sue Dockery; daughters, Holly Dockery, Kay Adams, and Downyta Kelsey (Conrad); granddaughters, Amelia (Johnnie), Aryssa, Sarah, Ally, Addy, and Rachel; grandson, JC; great granddaughter, Jackie; sisters MaryEllen Russell (Ray), Linda Inman (Odie), and Charlene Lysek (Chuck); and multiple nieces and nephews.

Downey was a master carpenter who could build or fix almost anything.  His handiwork will be enjoyed by many future generations of family. Downey was an avid sports fan.  He never missed a game or competition of his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan.  Downey was one of the founding coaches for the Townsend Midget football team and coached there for many years, loving every minute of it. He loved his mountain home and watching and interacting with the abundant wildlife there. Downey was a kind and patient man, who taught us all so much.  We are comforted by the knowledge that he is with Jesus and that we will see him again one day.

The family will receive friends on April 11^th, from 5-6pm.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at RIO Townsend Church, 325 Webb Road, Townsend, TN, with Jeff Dockery and Ronnie Hepperly officiating.
