Dale Eugene Carnes

Dale Eugene Carnes was born February 9, 1932. He passed away September 14, 2025. Dale loved his Townsend home where he enjoyed his favorite things: the river, the mountains, the farm, the family, and the friends. Dale graduated from Townsend Highschool, Tennessee Wesleyan and Wofford Colleges. He enjoyed playing football for his high school and college teams. He was a dedicated, long-time member of Bethel Baptist. Dale taught Sunday School for many years. Dale proudly serviced in the US Army for 2 years, stationed in Orleans, France. He taught school at Pi Beta Phi, La Belle, FL, and finally taught and coached in Jefferson County Schools for 34 years. Dale served as a member of the Myers Cemetery Preservation Association.

Preceded in death by his parents Ernest & Mildred Carnes and his brother-in-law Charles Ledbetter. Dale is survived by his sister Joyce Ledbetter; nephew Rick (Anna) Ledbetter; niece Teresa (Joel) Loy; great nieces Sondra (Mark) Eikenberry, Monica (Josh) Rutledge, Angela (Shaun) Moore; 10 great grandnieces and nephews; very special cousins; and beloved Mary Ellen Bishop.

Dale always had a smile and a kind work for anyone that he met. He will be missed by many who call him Friend. Dale loved hiking all around the Great Smoky Mountain Trails with his good friends.

We want to thank Dale’s good friends who were there for him, taking him places, bringing him food, spring water, books and spending quality time with him. You meant the world to Dale. Much thanks to Dr. Scott Gardner for taking great medical care of Dale over the years. Also thank you to Prisma Blount Memorial 4th Floor nurses, doctors and Prisma Health Hospice for their care of Dale.

There will be a service for Dale on November 1st at 1:00pm, Bethel Baptist Church in Townsend, TN. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 132 Bethel Church Road, Townsend, TN 37882).
