Roman Francis Swatzyna

August 2, 1929 — July 6, 2018

Roman Francis Swatzyna, age 88, passed away July 6, 2018. He was born in Beckley, West Virginia and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. A career newspaper pressman, he worked at various area papers including the Chattanooga Free Press, Knoxville News Sentinel, and The Oak Ridger. After retiring he worked part-time at The Daily Times. A gifted wood worker and avid bird watcher, he spent many hours making bird houses and bird feeders for friends and neighbors. In his early years he enjoyed being outdoors farming and tending to his garden. Other interests included watching baseball and catching a breeze on his screened in porch. A kind, caring man, he never hesitated to help anyone in need and will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jimmie; parents William and Agatha, brothers Billy, Rudy and Ronald. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Joy, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc.
