Mr. John Critt Jones Jr.

John Critt Jones, Jr., age 78, of Maryville, TN, passed away quietly Friday, November 9th, 2018 at his son’s home. He was born September 27th, 1940 in Harlan County, KY to John Critt Jones, Sr. and Mary Eva (Inman) Jones. He worked for Dayton Casting and Yoders Industries before retiring. John also did volunteer work for Box 21 in Trotwood, OH. He continued to work part time after retiring as a security guard. John always had a smile and did not know a stranger. He enjoyed being with family and church friends. He graduated from Roosevelt High School. On July 15, 1979, he married Kitsy Ann Comer Banks. He was a member of the Singing Jones Brothers, in which he traveled for many years with his brother Jim, and sang gospel tunes throughout Ohio and the Tennessee Mountains. He and Jimmy sang on many gospel radio stations in both Tennessee and Ohio, as well as in many nursing homes. John is preceded in death by his wife Kisty Jones, brothers Millard and Jimmy Jones, sisters June (John) Caldwell, Zola Mable (Charles) Messer, brother-in-law Kelin Hastys and grandson Joshua Lawson. He is survived by one son, Reverend James (Joyce) Jones of Maryville, TN, step-sons Steve (Marilyn) Sharp, Jr. of Vidor, TX and Bruce (Robin) Banks of Huber Heights, OH, step-daughters Tammy (Jeff) Anderson of Union, OH and Jennifer (David) Fleming of Dayton, OH, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, brother Presley (Peggy) Jones of Moraine, OH, sister Dorothy Hastys of W. Carollton, OH, sister-in-law Alice Jones of Middleton, OH and a host of nieces and nephews. There will be a Memorial Service Friday, November 16th at Rejoicing Life Church of God, 54 S. Gebhert Church Road, Miamisburg, OH at 7pm, with Visitation immediately proceeding, from 5-7pm. The Reverend James M. Jones officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at John’s final resting place, Bear Creek Cemetery, 172 N. Union Road, Dayton, OH.
